Communities

The communities near Panorama Terrace are Plains  and Thompson Falls, 10 and 14 minutes respectively. The town of Plains (10 miles away) is a mountain valley community with roots in trading, logging and agriculture.  Today a variety of businesses provide many of the services available in larger cities.  The recently upgraded airport has a paved runway 4600 feet long; capable of handling aircraft of any size up to a 737.  Annual events, including the famed Sanders County Fair, offer festive activities for the whole family. The Plains Chamber of Commerce can be reached at 406-826-3662. There are schools for grades K-12. There is a public library and a hospital.

Thompson Falls (14 miles from Panorama Terrace ) sits on the scenic Clark Fork River and is named for the river's natural falls. You can enjoy this setting at Thompson Falls State Park (406-752-5501). Other attractions include the Historic Jail Museum, Wild Goose Landing Park and Recreation Center, Bighorn Sheep Viewing Station east of town and the scenic Blue Slide area west of town. Thompson Falls has a population of around 2100 folks. There are schools to serve grades k-12. Thompson Falls is surrounded by tmillions of acres of public forest land thereby providing many recreation opportunities for avid sportsmen and sportswomen alike.

 The larger communities of Missoula and Kalispell are 90 miles to the north and the south of Panorama Terrace. Missoula is the hub of five valleys in western Montana, home of the University of Montana, superb scenery, a western atmosphere and great seasonal weather. Two National Parks, Glacier Park and the National Bison Range and eight other National Treasures are but a short drive away.

Hill as part of the westward expansion of the Great Northern Railroad, the City of Kalispell continues to grow in population and stature. Kalispell is the largest city in Northwest Montana and serves as the county seat and commercial hub of Flathead County. The City is considered a secondary trade center with a trade area of approximately 130,000. Kalispell is host to the Flathead Valley Community College with a fall 2004 enrollment of 1900 (1240 full time equivalent) students. Kalispell also serves as the medical center for northwest Montana with Kalispell Regional Hospital named one of the top 100 hospitals in the nation with a 100 bed facility, a physician staff of 139 doctors and the ALERT program, the nations second oldest helicopter ambulance service in the nation. Panorama Terrace sits in the middle of Sanders County, 85 miles from Missoula (take Highway 93 south to Ravalli and follow Highway 200 ten miles west of Plains), 90 miles from Kalispell (take Highway 93 south to Highway 28 south to Highway 200 west ten miles west of Plains) and 100 miles from Sandpoint, Idaho (east on Highway 200).  Regional airports at Missoula, Kalispell and Spokane, Washington (3 hours by car) are serviced by major andlow fare airlines with hubs in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, Chicago and Atlanta.  Amtrak services Whitefish and Libby, Montana, both 2 hours away.  Although a usually forgotten mode of transport, overnight rail services to Seattle and Portland can make for a business (or romantic) getaway – just hop aboard at 9 pm in Whitefish and arrive in Seattle at 7 am the next morning. Panorama Terrace is close enough to civilization to provide a good comfort level and far enough way to enjoy the rugged beauty and nature of the last best place.
